100% renewable energy bill filed in Massachusetts

State Representative Sean Garballey (D-Arlington), State Representative Marjorie Decker (D-Cambridge), and State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton) filed a bill today that would commit Massachusetts to obtain 100 percent of its energy from clean, renewable sources like solar and wind.

Newton to Announce Groundbreaking Program to Provide Solar Credits to Low-Income Households

Mayor Setti Warren, along with representatives from Eversource, Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD), and Newton’s Director of Sustainability Andrew Savitz, will announce the Newton Community Share Solar Initiative (CoSSi) at City Hall on October 19th. 

 This unique program will provide economic benefits to over one thousand low- income Newton households by sharing solar credits from the City’s solar development projects. It will also reduce the City’s carbon footprint, increasing the amount of clean, renewable energy in the community.

MassDEP seeks input on how to tackle climate change

As you may know, Massachuetts is required by law to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.  That's because of the Global Warming Solutions Act (GWSA), a law passed by the legislature in 2008.  The GWSA requires, among other things, that Massachusetts reduce GHG emissions from all sectors of the economy 25% by 2020 and 80% by 2050.

35 Massachusetts Candidates Pledge to Refuse Money from Major Fossil Fuel and Utility Companies

The climate advocacy organization 350 Mass Action has formally launched the Clean Money for Climate Pledge, which calls on candidates running for office in Massachusetts to refuse campaign contributions from executives, lobbyists, and others employed by ten major fossil fuel and utility companies through the duration of the 2016 election cycle. 

As of this morning, 35 candidates for state legislature had signed the pledge, including Senate President Pro Tempore Marc Pacheco.
