Massachusetts Municipal Association weighs in on solar

February 6, 2016

The Massachusetts Municipal Association (MMA) is a statewide organization representing the cities and towns of the Commonwealth.  Their view on policy issues carries a great deal of weight.  That's why their recent letter to the legislature on solar policy is so important.

In the letter, MMA supports efforts to raise net metering caps so municipal projects currently on hold can move forward.  The association also expresses concern about proposals to slash net metering credit values as it would impact the economic feasibility of many municipal projects (NOTE: The same is true for community shared and low income solar projects).  Similar to MassSolar, MMA urges the legislature to maintain retail net metering rates for municipal projects given the benefits they provide to cities and town.  MMA also weighs in against fixed charges and minimum monthly bills and requests that all existing solar projects be fully grandfathered under existing policy conditions.

MassSolar couldn't agree more.
